Toby Litt
Toby Litt (born 1968) is an English novelist, short story writer, and academic who made a notable foray into American comics. Based at the University of Southampton, he is best known to comic readers for his work on *Dead Boy Detectives*, a supernatural series spun from Neil Gaiman's *The Sandman* universe. Litt wrote all 13 issues of the title, published from 2014 to 2015, collaborating with artist Mark Buckingham. The series followed the ghostly Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine as they solved mysteries, blending Litt’s literary sensibility with the gothic whimsy of the source material. His comic work, though brief, showcased his ability to craft character-driven, eerie narratives. Outside comics, Litt has written several acclaimed novels, including *Corpsing* and *Ghost Story*, and his academic role at the University of Southampton informs his analytical approach to storytelling. While his comic output is limited, his *Dead Boy Detectives* run remains a cult favorite among fans of the Vertigo imprint. Litt has not received major comic industry awards, but his literary work has earned him a steady readership. He continues to write fiction and teach, maintaining a presence in both literary and comic circles.
