Tony Caputo
Tony Caputo is an American author, visual artist, entrepreneur, and former publisher best known for his work as a colorist and writer on 1980s and early 1990s licensed comics. Born in the United States, he entered the industry in the mid-1980s and became a regular contributor to titles such as *Speed Racer*, *Fright Night*, *The Terminator*, and *The Twilight Zone*. His most notable co-creation is the series *Syphons*, which he wrote and colored. Caputo’s style balanced gritty realism with clean, accessible storytelling, and he often collaborated with artists like Dan Jurgens and others on these licensed properties. After his active period in comics from 1986 to 1993, he shifted focus to entrepreneurship and publishing, founding a small press that produced art books and graphic novels. While he did not receive major industry awards, his work on *Syphons* and his role in bringing cult film and TV properties to comics earned him a dedicated following. Caputo’s legacy lies in his versatility as both a colorist and writer during a transitional era for independent and licensed comics.
