Albert Uderzo was the French comic artist and co-creator of the beloved *Asterix* series. He was born Alberto Aleandro Uderzo on 25 April 1927 in Italy, and died on 24 March 2020. After his family moved to France, he began drawing early, and his path into comics was shaped by a natural talent for lively, expressive illustration. He is best known for his long collaboration with writer René Goscinny, with whom he created *Asterix* and the earlier *Oumpah-pah*. Uderzo's signature style—full of dynamic, cartoonish energy and detailed, historically playful backgrounds—defined the look of the Gaulish village. Together, he and Goscinny produced some of the most celebrated European comic albums. After Goscinny's death, Uderzo continued *Asterix* as both writer and artist. He retired from drawing in September 2011. His work earned him major recognition, including the Grand Prix de la Ville d'Angoulême and the Legion of Honour. Uderzo's legacy rests on a body of work that brought joy to millions, with *Asterix* remaining a cornerstone of French comics.
