Ulli Lust
b. 1967
Ulli Lust (born 1967 in Vienna) is an Austrian cartoonist based in Berlin, best known for her raw, autobiographical graphic novel *Today is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life*. Translated into English by Fantagraphics in 2013, the book earned her an Ignatz Award for Best Graphic Novel and the *Los Angeles Times* Book Prize for Graphic Novels, followed by an Eisner nomination for Best Reality-Based Work in 2014. In 2013, she also adapted Marcel Beyer’s novel *Flughunde* into the graphic novel *Voices in the Dark*, a fictional account of Helga Goebbels. Her work, often translated into German, Dutch, French, Swedish, Italian, Spanish, and English, blends unflinching memoir with experimental linework and muted washes. She has collaborated with various European publishers and holds a professorship at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover, while lecturing internationally. Over a career spanning 2001 to 2025, she has contributed as artist, writer, colorist, inker, and letterer on 25 issues, with notable titles including *Wer bleibt*, *Automatenhefte*, and *Cómo traté de ser una buena persona*. Lust’s legacy lies in her candid, formally inventive storytelling, which has influenced contemporary European comics.
