Frederick Whitney Ellsworth was born on November 27, 1908, and died on September 7, 1980. An American editor, occasional writer, and artist, he was a key figure at DC Comics during the Golden Age of Comic Books. Ellsworth is best remembered as DC’s liaison to the film and television industry, serving as producer and story editor on *The Adventures of Superman* TV series. In the comics, his editorial hand shaped many of the company’s early superhero titles. As a writer, his credits are concentrated in the mid-1960s, with his most frequent work appearing in *Smash!* He collaborated with artists such as Wayne Boring and Curt Swan, helping to define the look of Superman in the postwar years. Ellsworth’s behind-the-scenes influence extended DC’s reach into other media, a pioneering move for the time. While he did not receive major industry awards during his lifetime, his role in bridging comics and television left a lasting mark on how superheroes were presented to a broader audience.
