Yellow Tanabe

Yellow Tanabe (born June 13 in Tokyo) is a Japanese manga artist best known for creating the supernatural action series *Kekkaishi*. After graduating from Musashino Art University, she gained experience as an assistant to Mitsuru Adachi and Makoto Raiku before making her professional debut in 2002 with the one-shot *Lost Princess*. Her breakout work, *Kekkaishi*, became a long-running hit, adapted into an anime television series and translated into numerous languages worldwide. Tanabe also contributed a one-shot story to the inaugural issue of the revived *Monthly Shōnen Sunday* in May 2009. In 2007, she received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen manga for *Kekkaishi*. Her signature style blends clean, expressive character designs with detailed, atmospheric backgrounds, often focusing on the balance between the human and spirit worlds. While she has not been as prolific since *Kekkaishi* concluded, her work on that series remains a touchstone for fans of supernatural shōnen manga, and she is credited as artist, inker, and writer on 17 cataloged issues from 2005 to 2012.
