Yishan Li
Yishan Li (born 1981) is a Chinese-British comics and manhua illustrator best known for her work on major American franchises including *Hellboy*, *Batwoman*, and *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*. Entirely self-taught, Li entered the industry with a distinctive style that she describes as "'girly stuff' ... ranging from historical detective dramas to young girls' adventure stories." Her credits as artist, colorist, inker, and letterer span 2012–2019, with notable contributions to *Convergence Blue Beetle*, *Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1956*, and several *Buffy: The High School Years* titles. In 2019, Lexus UK commissioned Li and two other artists to create manga-inspired artwork for its car campaign; her piece depicted a woman atop a Lexus UX SUV at sunset, inspired by the tagline "New Horizons." The following year, she illustrated a graphic novel about a fictional descendant of *Frankenstein* author Mary Shelley—a teenage goth girl named Mary—which the American Library Association selected for its 2021 Great Graphic Novels for Teens list. Li’s career reflects a blend of mainstream superhero work and creator-driven projects rooted in her personal sensibility.
