Pulp Magazine Cover, July 1948

· July 1948

This document is not a pulp magazine but U.S. Air Force material from 1948—specifically Project "Sign" incident reports concerning unidentified flying object sightings near Columbus, Ohio on July 31, 1948. The collection includes witness statements, investigative summaries, and analysis. Multiple observers reported unusual aerial phenomena: a housewife and truck driver witnessed an oblong, black object resembling a large lantern, approximately 250 feet altitude, moving slowly westward to eastward while emitting black smoke and an enclosed light, making no noise. Another witness observed what appeared as "large stars" arranged in formation, gold-colored and stationary. A teletype operator later identified a recovered object as a white crepe-paper balloon of "County Fair" type. Military intelligence analysts evaluated incidents for astronomical explanations, balloon identification, or conventional aircraft, with Dr. Hynek's classifications appended.
