Strange Tales of Mystery and Terror

· October 1954

This document is not a pulp magazine, but rather military correspondence regarding a UFO sighting. It consists of official U.S. government reports filed in October 1954, documenting an observation made by a civilian employee of Naval Ammunition Depot Crane, Indiana, and his wife on October 6, 1954. The witness reported observing an oval-shaped object approximately 75 feet long, ringed with blue-violet flame, trailing fire, producing a high-pitched sound, traveling horizontally at low altitude in a northeast direction, observed for 3-5 seconds. The reporting chain includes the Naval Commanding Officer forwarding the account to Air Force Intelligence with supplemental meteorological and traffic data, and subsequent Air Force acknowledgment from Colonel Joseph Blocher noting the data's referral for analyst evaluation within the Air Force's established UFO investigation program.
