# Museum Catalog Note
This document is not a pulp magazine but rather a U.S. Air Force UFO investigation record from Project 10073 (Blue Book). It documents a sighting reported on August 17, 1956, by the captain of Eastern Airlines Flight 49 en route from Puerto Rico to LaGuardia Airport. The pilot observed a bright white, orange-and-white bobbing light object that passed within 42 feet of the aircraft while flying at 6,822 feet altitude. The object remained visible for 23β25 minutes, moving 270 degrees to the aircraft's course and exhibiting diving, climbing, and circling maneuvers. The incident was recorded through New York Air Traffic Control and investigated by the Air Technical Intelligence Center, which requested information from General Mills Inc. regarding possible balloon launchings that might account for the sighting.
