Raymond S. Spears offers "The Were-Cougar," an unconventional tale of a Southwest man whose great cats become his companions. "Toby's White Rats" by Captain Dingle involves a sea setting and a sailor's animal attachments. Don Cameron Shafer's "Hunter's Code" explores competing claims to a kill in the Southern mountains. "The King of Matabanick" by Leslie McFarlane depicts Canadian colonial conflict between Indians and their master, while T. S. Stribling's "The Prints of Hantoun," set in Martinique, features a psychologist protagonist. Additional contributions include Gordon Young's Western serial "La Rue of the 88" (Part III) and Kenneth Malcolm Murray's Russian story "Orlick the Eagle."
