The Tyrant of Nottingham

This pulp library issue presents a Robin Hood adventure serialized as "The Tyrant of Nottingham," detailing Robin Hood's capture of the Norman tyrant Oswald de Burgh. The narrative opens with Robin assembling two hundred men in Sherwood Forest for an attack on Nottingham Castle. He encounters an armed stranger on horseback, who reveals himself as Sir Edward Thorgood, a loyal companion of Robin's deceased father. Thorgood brings an additional hundred retainers to join Robin's cause. The combined force launches an assault on the castle using scaling-ladders and a raft across the moat, with sharpshooters suppressing the defenders. Though the attackers breach the castle and rout de Burgh's men, the tyrant escapes through a secret door with some followers when Little John accidentally blocks the staircase, causing Robin and Friar Tuck to tumble downward. Robin takes possession of the castle and liberates numerous starving prisoners from the dungeons, handing them to Friar Tuck for care.
