This issue of Beadle's Dime Novels contains two related border adventure serials. "The Young Mustanger; or, The Red Terror of Texas" by Will Dexter features Lasso Jack and Henry St. Elmo, young mustang hunters pursued across the Texas prairie by Comanche warriors. During a desperate chase, St. Elmo is knocked from his horse and disappears. The narrative follows a frontier wagon party led by military Captain Louis Gray, comprising soldiers, Santa Fe traders including an English gentleman Sir George Richardson, and two young orphaned women—Mabel Garfield and her sister—bound for Santa Fe. An upcoming issue will feature "Black Panther, the Half-Blood: The Slaves of the Silver Mines" by Jos. E. Badger Jr., concerning an Indian uprising against Spanish colonial enslavement in Northern Mexico and Arizona, involving mystery and romance.
