# Ocean Bloodhound; or, The Red Pirates of the Caribbees

By Samuel W. Pearce. This maritime adventure serial, published in Beadle's Half-Dime Library (July 1908), follows Captain Zeke Jones and mate Job Rogers aboard the trading brig Nancy Jones, returning from profitable commerce in Africa and South America. While carrying valuable cargo through the West Indies, they discover a suspicious schooner. Despite precautions, they are boarded by pirates led by a giant ruffian operating under Pedro Santillez. The crew retreats to the forecastle as the pirates plunder the ship's gold and valuables. Upon finding passenger manifest revealing a Mrs. Colonel Sanders and child aboard, the pirate leader seeks out the lady's cabin, forcing its way in while the terrified woman pleads for her child's safety. The narrative emphasizes action, sea-faring terminology, and American sailor dialects.
