# Leadville Nick, the Boy Sport; or, The Mad Miner's Vengeance

By Major E. L. St. Vrain. This serial follows Nick, a beardless youth of about nineteen, drawn into a burglary at the Eagle Hotel in Leadville by the crafty David Sargent and the rough Rufe Bonney. During the nighttime break-in, when Sargent attempts to secure stolen documents from a sleeping man's room, the man awakens and fights back. Sargent fatally stabs him with a knife before the conspirators escape. Afterward, Nick is horrified by the murder and the role he played as accomplice, while Sargent discovers their crime yielded useless documents—the intended papers were not present. Nick seeks release from Sargent's grip, having repaid his debt, while Sargent implies darker consequences await if Nick attempts departure.
