This installment of Beadle and Adams' dime novel series (No. 760, February 16, 1892, reprinted from Half-Dime Library No. 98) continues the frontier adventure serial by Col. Prentiss Ingraham. Charlie Emmett, a Kentucky runaway who joined his uncle's fur-trading expedition, must escape from a Sioux village where he's captive to warn the traders of an impending massacre. The renegade white chief "Red Hair" and his men plan to ambush the returning fur-laden wagons at Canyon Spring. Charlie overhears the plot, steals a horse, and pursues the war party. Encountering two warriors—one capturing the bound Indian warrior "Red Spirit"—Charlie shoots his captor and frees Red Spirit. Charlie continues toward the fur-traders' route, eventually reaching the wagon train at Canyon Spring campsite as a welcomed arrival.
