# The Big Blau at Pay Dirt

The Big Blau at Pay Dirt by Wm. R. Eyster is a Western adventure serial. In Pay Dirt mining camp, Helen Ford searches frantically for her missing father, Ezra Ford, absent three days. Doctor Cyrus Hanshaw arrives claiming to have found him but reveals nothing definite about the man's fate. Hanshaw, a town doctor with mining interests and a stake in the Early Bird Saloon, attempts to coerce Helen into submission, implying her father is dead and offering himself as her only protector. Before he can force himself upon her, a boy calling himself "Little Clean Grit"—a young but quick-drawing gunslinger of educated speech—intervenes with drawn revolver, driving Hanshaw away. The boy, newly arrived in camp, volunteers to help Helen uncover the truth about her father and investigate Hanshaw's apparent villainy. Clean Grit pursues the doctor, hoping to extract information.
