Deadwood Dick Jr.'s Double Drop

Featured in this Beadle and Adams pulp (Vol. 101, No. 946; June 10, 1895), Edward L. Wheeler's serial continuation finds the famous detective Deadwood Dick Jr. arriving in Denver just as he's summoned to a murder scene. A wealthy man named Marian Roh has been murdered in his locked bedroom, his jugular severed by knife. His second wife discovered the body, but claims ignorance. Suspicion quickly falls on Harmon Roh, the victim's estranged son, who visited the day before and inherits nothing—the widow stands to receive Roh's half-million-dollar estate. Dick attends the inquest, observing the butler Barlow's nervous behavior while police and visiting detectives find themselves "stumped" with no clear evidence. The murder admits no obvious robbery or entry method, deepening the mystery.
