# Sheriff Huntway of Montana

Sheriff Huntway, of Montana; or, Steele Sharp Number One by Ed. A. Wicks, published July 14, 1896, is a Western detective serial. Grudge Grave, a criminal, is discovered by Sheriff Clifford Huntway with forty thousand dollars stolen from a messenger of the cattle firm Granger & Longwood, who was robbed and left for dead. Though arrested, Grave reveals only hidden personal savings. A deformed boy detective, Bart Bartlee, arrives to investigate independently, searching for the actual stolen money to save someone named Valerie. An unknown assailant attacks Bartlee in the cabin's cellar, seemingly killing him, then burns the structure to conceal evidence. Sheriff Huntway, an efficient young Montana lawman, pursues the case as the town of Pine Forks offers a ten-thousand-dollar reward for capturing the robbers.
