# Buck Farley, the Bonanza Prince; or, The Romance of Death Gulch

This Western romance serial depicts a ranching landscape where Rose, a seventeen-year-old American girl of mysterious parentage, secretly meets Edward Dorlon, a poor American prospector. Rose's mother, Senora Lucia, remarried to the wealthy Mexican Pedro Rosalba after Rose's father Henry Warren disappeared years ago. Rose's stepfather and his nephew Manuel Vincente demand she marry Manuel; Rose refuses, favoring Dorlon instead.
When Senora spots Rose fleeing to meet Dorlon in the cottonwoods, she alerts Rosalba, who captures the lovers. Rosalba brutally sentences Dorlon to execution, dragging him away despite Rose's pleas. The cruel Mexican dismisses Dorlon's threats of friends seeking vengeance. Rose collapses senseless. Her hunchbacked stepbrother Benito, discovering her, vows to follow Dorlon to "Death Gulch" and attempt rescue, though Rose despairs of success.
