# Museum Catalog Note
This issue contains the opening installment of "Tiger Dick vs Iron Despard; or, Every Man Has His Match," a Western adventure serial by Philip S. Warne, author of the "Tiger Dick" and "Patent-Leather Joe" series. Chapter I, "John Chinaman's Guest," follows Tiger Dick as he seeks shelter from a mountain storm at a mining camp hut occupied by Chinese laborers smoking opium. After sharing their rice, Tiger Dick repels a band of armed ruffians attempting to rob the hut, single-handedly defeating their leader before pursuing them into darkness. The next morning, refreshed and well-fed, Tiger Dick departs for the mining camp itself, where he discovers a man in ambush awaiting a victim—a woman—whom the assailant successfully captures despite Tiger Dick's observation from concealment. The serial emphasizes action, frontier conflict, and the protagonist's martial prowess.
