# The "Suspects" from Frisco
The "Suspects" from Frisco by J.C. Cowdrick is a Western crime serial. The opening chapter documents an election night in Raspberry County, where sheriff candidates John Stillwood and Giles Marsdon await returns. Stillwood appears to be winning. The region has suffered depredations from a notorious outlaw gang led by "Night-time Nigel," who recently robbed the Consolidated Mining Company safe. As the final returns arrive, a rider dramatically enters the hotel's bar-room on horseback and reveals himself as Nigel by snatching off a false red beard before escaping. The outlaw has apparently stopped the messenger and delivered false returns showing Stillwood's election. The rival candidates—including Lawrence Guydon for Assembly—accept the results with sportsmanship. The chapter concludes with celebration and the assignment of Stillwood's first duty: capturing the elusive outlaw.
