The Bogus Broker's Right Bower: Ralph Rolent's (Felon #6) Tigress-Shadower, by Captain Howard Holmes. A detective serial in Beadle & Adams pulp, March 14, 1894. Colonel Sharpe, a handsome wealthy man of fifty, meets with a small, sallow-faced operative called "Twenty-Six" to obtain a photograph of the millionaire banker Herman Holt. Sharpe, who bears a striking resemblance to Holt, plans an unspecified scheme. The operative leaves the house shadowed by a mysterious woman who pursues him through New York streets to the docks, where he boards the bark Sea Sylph, bound for Borneo under Captain Jacar. Meanwhile, Herman Holt, a reclusive financier who maintains a secret second residence and leads a double life unknown to his daughter Nanon, falls asleep at his desk late at night. A visitor resembling Holt enters his plainly-furnished room, bends over the sleeping banker with malicious intent, and raises a long white hand—the narrative breaking off mid-action.
