Beadle's Dime Library No. 806: The Grand Street Gold-Dust Sharpers

Detective Thad Burr encounters a countryman being lured into a confidence game on Grand Street and picks up a dropped letter detailing a gold-dust swindle. The scheme involves sending circulars nationwide claiming to sell genuine gold dust at a fraction of its value, then bilking victims with brass filings. Burr brings the letter to Superintendent Byrnes, who identifies the operation as a known racket run by the notorious swindler "Sheeny Sam" (Samuel Einstein). Byrnes dispatches Captain Nolan with officers to raid the fourth-floor location, while Byrnes tells Burr the gang likely fled already, advising him to catch Sheeny Sam through the two street "pullers-in" he observed.
