This issue features the serialized detective story "Dan Dunn's Double" by Joseph E. Badger, Jr., depicting the adventures of Dan Dunn, a plainclothes officer working under Chief Croder in St. Joseph. In Chapter I, "Fish-Hawk and Eagle," two street thugs—Mace Wilson and Pony Keefe—ambush a well-dressed pedestrian under a gaslight for robbery. The assault is interrupted when Dunn intervenes, disarming the attackers and calling police. The victim, Berry Barfort, is taken to the Pacific House hotel.
