Beadle's New York Dime Library, No. 874

· July 24, 1895

This issue of Buffalo Bill Stories (No. 874, July 24, 1895) features "The Card Queen's Last Game" by Col. Prentiss Ingraham. The serial follows Buffalo Bill's infiltration of the outlaw "Brimstone Brotherhood," disguised as the Deserter Sergeant. After executing the renegade Snow Face (Douglass Dean) in a canyon with cavalry troops, Buffalo Bill visits the deceased chief's widow, Irma Dean—now called the Renegade Queen—at her mountain cabin among the Sioux. She initially attempts to shoot him, believing him responsible for her husband's death, but he disarms her and reveals the true circumstances: Edmund Allyn (Captain Brimstone) was the actual murderer of a wealthy man for whom Dean had been falsely arrested. The narrative involves kidnapping, military operations, outlaws, and romantic entanglement. The text breaks off mid-sentence as Irma processes Buffalo Bill's revelations about her husband's innocence.
