When Strong's bullets drive away an assassination attempt on Goldspur, the mayor confronts the detective directly, demanding honesty. Meanwhile, the would-be assassin, "Weeping Mose," reports failure to Stamm at a secret underground cabin, hinting at broader criminal operations surrounding the mine.
