Beadle's Pocket Library No. 329: Dave the Colorado Wrestler

Β· April 30, 1890

This issue contains the opening installment of "Dave, the Colorado Wrestler; or, Beppo, the Italian Bravo" by Major E. L. St. Vrain. A gentleman named Nathan Comstock travels through the Colorado mountains with guide Beppo, searching for his wife and daughter in Durango. Beppo, secretly hired to kill Comstock, signals an accomplice named Mike. During their passage across a mountain trail, Mike shoots Comstock; he falls into a raging stream and disappears. Beppo later meets a veiled woman who hired the murder. She dismisses him after paying, but Beppo resolves to uncover her identity and blackmail her. The narrative shifts to Durango, where a young wrestler called Dave receives a mysterious letter from Dorothy R. Darke requesting a confidential meeting, hinting at mutual benefit. Dave, intrigued though puzzled, decides to visit her that evening.
