The Texan Sport

This 1892 Beadle and Adams weekly issue contains "The Boy Mustang-Hunter," a Western adventure serial by Frederick Whittaker. Frank Weston, an impoverished young man of good breeding, has lost his family plantation and now pursues both vengeance and romance on the Texas plains. His father was shot by the desperado Austin; meanwhile, Gabrielle Moreau, daughter of a French planter, has promised to marry Frank only if he captures the legendary Black Mustang of the Prairies. When the old frontier hunter Pete Wilkins encounters Frank near the Colorado River region, he agrees to help. Wilkins recounts the mustang's reputation—a nearly uncatchable wild stallion that has eluded professional hunters, Greasers, Indians, and soldiers. Frank's prize horse, descended from Lexington, may offer his best chance. The narrative promises a difficult pursuit across the Western territories.
