This January 1914 issue of The Blue Book Magazine contains 208 pages of fiction across multiple genres. The lead story, "Detective Despair" by Frank R. Blighton, presents an unusual mystery. Two serials continue: the fourth installment of "Innocence," depicting Bohemian life in New York where Esther leaves Landrum for a millionaire; and the sixth installment of "The Blue Lizard" by James Francis Dwyer, featuring castaways in peril. The complete novelette "A Daughter of St. Louis" by Fritz Kitson concerns a girl's adventures aboard a Mississippi River floating theater. Twenty short stories follow, including tales of African exploration, aeronautics, the Philippines, prison life, diplomacy, and Monte Carlo intrigue, by authors including Courtney Ryley Cooper, Clarence Herbert New, and Octavus Roy Cohen.
