# "Amazonas de las Galaxias" (Amazons of the Galaxies)
By Curtis Garland, Spanish-language science fiction serial from La Conquista del Espacio (The Conquest of Space), Editorial Bruguera, 1978.
The Galax-09, a massive intergalactic research vessel crewed by thirteen men from the planet Klaat in the Uria galaxy, travels millions of light-years beyond Andromeda investigating for intelligent life in the neighboring Dolías galaxy. Commander Kral Vander, astronauts Art Obben and Val Ingram monitor systems during routine cruise. Young, imaginative Ingram, yearning for exploration beyond the ship's parameters, monitors life support—algae cultivation, reactor function, atmosphere, and gravity control—while fantasizing about descending to unknown worlds via the small three-person Módulo XY shuttle.
During lunch, Ingram discovers an unidentified solid object on the visual scanner: an elongated, dark, immobile body ahead of their course. The object emits no signals, registers as non-asteroid, and may possess magnetic properties obscuring spectrophotographic analysis. Vander alters course to approach cautiously by port side, concerned about gravitational interaction and collision risk.
