# Catalog Note: El Hombre Biónico

This Spanish-language science fiction serial, issue 483 in Editorial Bruguera's "La Conquista del Espacio" (The Conquest of Space) series, follows Ben Maddox, a military intelligence operative severely injured in a terrorist bombing of a military jeep en route to Cape Canaveral. The explosion leaves him with massive trauma: amputation of his left arm, brain damage causing total amnesia, cardiac deterioration, ocular damage threatening blindness, severe leg lacerations, and internal organ damage.

His wife Karin and friend Shelby Marlowe struggle against military security restrictions preventing them from seeing him. Intelligence officials Kelly Lorrimer and Colonel Plummer despair that Maddox will either die or survive as a severely disabled man unable to recover the classified information he had discovered before the attack.

Doctor Waldo Shawn proposes a radical solution: consultation with Dr. Spencer Shields, a biomedical specialist in bionics, who has examined Maddox and believes his condition offers possibilities beyond conventional medicine. The narrative explores whether advanced bionics technology can restore Maddox to functionality.
