"Yo, el Diablo" by Burton Hare presents a supernatural thriller set in an English country manor during a weekend gathering. Host Ronald Howard invites the mysterious Professor Karl Veransay, a purported occultist claiming command over supernatural powers, to entertain his guests. Among them are Dan Marlow, a fantasy writer skeptical of such claims; the beautiful young Pauline Brand; and the grieving widower Alex Dawson. As dinner concludes and the group returns to the drawing room, Veransay begins demonstrating his alleged abilities, claiming to communicate with the dead and possess mental powers beyond normal comprehension. When challenged by Marlow to prove himself, Veransay performs a feat of apparent telekinesis, mysteriously unlocking a locked desk drawer without touching it—leaving guests astounded and increasingly unsettled by his ominous presence and capabilities.
