"El siniestro asesino soy yo" (The Sinister Murderer Is I) by Ada Coretti is a Spanish-language crime thriller. The narrative opens when Lex Reeves, a twenty-seven-year-old New York stockbroker on vacation, meets Amanda Welles at a roadside bar. Amanda reveals her wealthy friend Susan, recently married to Steve Arlen, fears her husband plans to murder her during their first anniversary dinner at a Manhattan rooftop restaurant forty stories above the street. Lex offers to pose as Amanda's English cousin to protect Susan at the celebration and subsequent stay at her mansion, Mall-Hillmelsson.
The story shifts to the isolated estate, a windowless and doorless white house accessible only by helicopter. The house's three longtime servants—mayordomo Bruce, cook Douglas, and maid Ida—discover gruesome murders: Douglas is found boiled in an enormous pot over a blazing coal fire; Ida is discovered drowned internally through a rubber tube connected to a bathtub faucet. An armed killer confronts Bruce in the kitchen, forcing him toward an open refrigerator large enough to contain a human body, threatening additional murder.
