Selection Terror No. 217, a Spanish pulp horror anthology published by Editorial Bruguera in April 1977, features "La Fosa de los Espíritus" by Silver Kane. The issue opens with a historical prologue detailing the 1649 witch trial and execution of Guntar in Amsterdam, presented as an account from a seventeenth-century Latin text. The narrative describes her interrogation by Reverend Branden, torture, forced confession under duress, and eventual burning at the stake before a crowd including singing children, with supernatural explanations offered for natural deaths from plague.

The main serial begins a detective-journalist narrative: the unnamed protagonist, reassigned from private investigative work to newspaper crime reporting, is sent to Italy with photographer Miss Lindsay to write literary reportage on Florence and Pisa. The prologue establishes an atmospheric frame involving a mysterious old book, while the opening chapters introduce the journalist's sardonic voice and hint at an impending mystery involving women named Lorena and Marta.
