# "Terror en la Antártida" by Joseph Berna
This terror/horror novel is set at an isolated American scientific research base at the South Pole. Professor Walter Nicholson commands the station alongside Dr. Shaw Wiler and other personnel including the young engineer Alan Dexter. When Dexter is caught in a compromising embrace with the voluptuous redhead Dorothy Evans by the newer arrival Carrol Tracy, romantic tensions escalate. Meanwhile, expedition members Norman Bridges and Robert Kelsey are returning by dog sled when their animals inexplicably panic near an ice formation. Investigating, Kelsey discovers an indescribable creature—neither fully animal nor human—that brutally kills him with a single claw strike that nearly severs his head. Norman attempts rescue but meets an identical fate. The mysterious, lethal entity remains at large near the base, establishing the central threat of this pulp horror narrative.
