Los magos de Urca

· 1969

This Spanish-language pulp science fiction serial, Los magos de Urca (The Wizards of Urca) by Peter Kapra, follows Commander Haar Greiz of the Earth military starship Sabre-X-99. After a violent cosmic storm kills forty-eight crew members, Greiz revives eleven survivors—six men and six women—from stasis in the ship's vacuum chamber. The severely damaged vessel drifts toward the planet Urca, orbiting a giant sun. On the bridge, Greiz encounters Ank-pgor, a humanoid alien wearing metallic eye-devices and robes, who claims to be a wizard sent by Arktmer, Urca's tyrant ruler. Ank-pgor telepathically reads the crew's minds, then examines Greiz and Lieutenant Selly before departing to report to his master. The narrative establishes a militarized 34th-century Earth locked in a centuries-long war against green aliens, with young Greiz raised as a soldier from infancy.
