This issue of the Half-Dime Library (Vol. II, August 9, 1898) features Edward L. Wheeler's serialized adventure "Canada Chet, The Counterfeiter Chief; Or, Old Anaconda in Sitting Bull's Camp," a tale of two boys' wilderness adventures. The story opens with eighteen-year-old Hal Dayton and his lanky companion Dave Laam (nicknamed "Big Track") boating down a forest stream in the Canadian Northwest, searching for the settled district of Quinnebog. Hungry and lost, they encounter Hazel Eye, a white girl in Indian dress on horseback, who warns them that the great chief Sitting Bull and his warriors hunt in these forests seeking pale-face scalps. The issue also includes an extensive catalog listing numerous titles from Wheeler's ongoing "Deadwood Dick, Jr." series, priced at five cents per copy.
