"Los gánsters investigan" (Gangsters Searching Out) by Vic Peterson, translated into Spanish by Manolo Jordan, is a detective story set in 1930s Chicago. The narrative centers on two contentious detectives of the Eighth District Criminal Brigade: Dave Conway, known for his stubborn violence, and Jerry Addams, a romantic womanizer. After witnessing Addams with an attractive young woman, Conway warns him she may be a setup by criminals to compromise him. Their confrontation ends badly, with Addams rejecting Conway's suspicions. The woman is Coral Rinaldi, daughter of notorious gangster Fosco Rinaldi. Addams and Coral are in love and plan marriage. A mysterious blonde woman telephones William Levelyn, Coral's wealthy lover, with anonymous accusations and directions to Garfield Park. Levelyn arrives and shoots Coral and Addams, then returns to his car intending suicide.
