# "Siniestros Dardos" (Sinister Darts)

This Spanish-language detective novel, translated from the English original by José Herrera, follows crime reporter Brent Channing of the Evening World. Channing responds to a newspaper advertisement from Lana Gowns seeking a partner with a gun license for a high-fashion boutique on Third Avenue in New York. Meeting the proprietor, the elegant and perceptive Lana Le Vane—a woman in her forties running a successful couture business—Channing learns she has received three extortion demands over a week, requiring $50,000 or her business will suffer. The caller threatens her anonymously by telephone. Le Vane refuses to pay and hires Channing as her partner to confront the blackmailer. A frightened older man arrives at Le Vane's office, reporting he received a death threat connected to the same extortion scheme, indicating Channing has stumbled into a serious criminal case requiring immediate investigation.
