Yo Espía

This Spanish-language pulp magazine from May 1953 features "Yo, Espía" (I, Spy), originally by Karl Medusa, translated by Luis Conde Vélez. The prologue explains that crime correspondent Ricky Drayton documented a Soviet espionage ring operating at American atomic research stations, but security restrictions prevented publication until the suspects were arrested. Medusa, now a paralyzed former FBI agent, presents Drayton's account.

Chapter One opens with Drayton on vacation in New York when his editor Reagan cables ordering him to investigate the disappearance of State Department officials Frank Connor and Everett Calthorpe, who vanished after the weekend with classified diplomatic documents. Meeting fellow reporter Harry Gosse at Flanagan's bar, Drayton learns the men may have fled voluntarily given recent political criticisms. A Brooklyn garage owner reported seeing both men Saturday filling a car with gasoline. A Vermont hotel proprietor subsequently identified them from newspaper photographs. Drayton pursues the lead, securing a rental automobile to investigate.
