This adventure story follows an unnamed American protagonist stranded in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, nursing grievances over a woman named Perla (a mulata who absconded with ten million dollars in sunken treasure to her antislavery organization AFIOU) and surviving on a meager thousand-dollar remainder. The narrator frequents "La Ley del Talión," a disreputable bar populated by murderers, rapists, and mercenaries, run by a Portuguese proprietor with mismatched eyes who misquotes scripture. When three women—a young blonde, a redheaded schoolteacher type, and a Jamaican rastafari—enter the bar seeking someone, the criminals attempt assault. The women prove combat-trained, armed with pistols and a massive Bland revolver, and quickly subdue their attackers in brutal hand-to-hand combat alongside the narrator. The story combines noir adventure with graphic violence and explicit sexual content.
