# "The Haunted Legacy" by Paul Regard
This All-Story Weekly issue (May 2, 1914) leads with the complete novel "The Haunted Legacy" by Paul Regard. The story follows Count Carlos Turga, a wealthy but mysterious twenty-one-year-old living in New York with his enigmatic servant Paulo. On his birthday, Turga receives an anonymous yellow envelope bearing a winged cross symbol, summoning him to meet Paulo at nine o'clock despite a dinner engagement. Compelled by the cryptic message and Paulo's uncharacteristic insistence, Turga cancels his plans. That evening, Paulo escorts him by automobile through Manhattan's degraded neighborhoods toward the waterfront, to a deserted warehouse bearing the name of the prominent Frail family. Paulo produces a key and leads Turga into the building's depths—through dark passages toward an underground cellar chamber where strange music and many voices echo from the distance.
