In Brunner's Treason, a junior Luan clerk named jen Durgil observes an interspecies military conference where the Human leader Gow challenges the battle strategy of jen Popra, the Luan delegation head. A computer simulation reveals flaws in Popra's plan—it would result in 59% fleet losses. When Popra questions the computer's authority and accuses Humans of cowardice, tensions escalate among the allied races. Back aboard the Luan flagship, Durgil hears rumors that jen Grobish may challenge Popra's leadership. The issue also includes editorial commentary from Peter Hamilton, Forrest J.
