This July 1954 issue of New Worlds Science Fiction (vol. 9, no. 25) presents a novelette and six short stories, plus nonfiction features. James White's novelette "Starvation Orbit" depicts a medical officer at Venus's North Polar Base conducting rescue operations after a spaceship collides with an orbiting station. The doctor must treat survivors exposed to decompression injuries and exhaustion while managing limited resources. Five short stories follow: "Staying Guests" by David Gardner, "The Ethical Question" by Lan Wright, "Man on the Ceiling" by E.R. James, "Pipe Away Stranger" by Francis G. Rayer, and "Ship from the Stars" by Peter Hawkins. Robert Sheckley contributes "The Odour of Thought." The issue includes a nonfiction article on semiconductors by John Newman, an editorial by editor John Carnell discussing the Manchester science fiction convention, book reviews by Leslie Flood, and a literary features section.
