# Museum Catalog Note

New Worlds (No. 66, Volume 22, December 1957) features a three-part serial launch, "Threshold of Eternity" by John Brunner, a science fiction adventure depicting future Earthmen battling an alien invasion across both time and space, with protagonists Red Hawkins (a disabled American with an aluminum leg) and Chantal Vareze (a French woman mysteriously displaced from London). The opening finds them meeting inexplicably on a California road following a mysterious explosion, discovering an injured stranger, and discovering a power failure. The issue also contains Robert Silverberg's novelette "Critical Threshold," short stories by D.M. Parks, Lan Wright, Bertram Chandler, and Brian Aldiss, articles on the International Geophysical Year and californium, and an editorial by John Carnell on human evolutionary advancement through medical progress.
