"Twice Bitten" by Donald Malcolm opens with ecologists Paul Janeba and Alan Gordon in an observation post on the alien planet Meroe, studying the mating behavior of squirrel-like creatures called "Eighters." The world proves problematic: aggressive insect swarms and mysterious venom from bee-like creatures inflict strange paralyzing effects with no detectable physical cause. "Live Test" by Peter Vaughan and "Pet Name For A World" by Gordon Walters appear as additional short fiction. Robert Presslie contributes "Till Life Do Us Part." Lan Wright's serial "Dawn's Left Hand" continues as part two of three. James White provides the guest editorial "The Oppressed Minority," addressing criticism of science fiction writers, arguing they earnestly attempt to satisfy conflicting reader demands.
