# Catalog Note
"The Little Swamp Fox" by General James A. Gordon, serialized in Pluck and Luck, No. 1283 (January 3, 1923), is a historical adventure tale set during the 1780 Siege of Charleston in the American Revolutionary War. Young patriot Robert Singleton, stationed in the besieged city, is dispatched by General Lincoln on a covert mission to warn patriot forces Marion and Sumter about British Colonel Tarleton's movements, preventing reinforcements from being intercepted. Singleton adopts Tory disguise to pass enemy lines, accompanied by his devoted servant Pomp. Before departing, he leaves a letter for his fiancée Harriet. During their escape preparation at a friend's house, two Tory assailants attack Pomp, who incapacitates them with repeated head-butts. A mortar shell kills the Tories moments later. Singleton exchanges clothes with Ben Hayden and prepares to depart under cover of darkness.
