# The Popular Magazine (December 1919)
This issue consists almost entirely of advertisements and promotional material rather than magazine fiction. The visible content includes classified advertisements for employment agencies, correspondence courses, and consumer products—self-heating irons, kerosene lamps, hosiery, kitchen sets, and poultry-raising publications. Educational institutions advertise courses in civil service examination preparation, memory training, short-story writing, engraving, illustration, and English composition. A substantial promotional section advertises complete sets of O. Henry's collected works (12 volumes) and Rudyard Kipling's works (6 volumes) offered on approval at installment rates. One piece of literary content appears: an excerpt featuring O. Henry discussing his Texas story about "Santa," dialogue involving potatoes, onions, and symbolic references to hearts and crosses. The magazine's advertising closes November 11th for the next issue.
