This July 1897 issue of The Argosy contains the serialized novel Peace with Honour by Sydney C. Grier, continuing from Chapter XIII. The narrative follows a British diplomatic mission in a Central Asian locale. Sir Dugald, the chief envoy, lies paralyzed and speechless from unclear causes—possibly poisoning—while his wife Lady Haigh oversees his care and his subordinate Stratford manages affairs. Political negotiations stall as the Vizier Fath-ud-Din repeatedly visits demanding bribes. Georgia Keeling, the mission's female doctor, is summoned urgently to the Palace to attend the Queen. Despite Lady Haigh's misgivings about safety, Georgia departs. When Stratford learns of her departure after meeting with Fath-ud-Din, he suspects entrapment. Georgia discovers that Jahan Beg, a local ally, has been arrested by the King—news that devastates the mission's diplomatic prospects.
